A short history of TASCAM digital mixers
TASCAM was established in 1971 as TEAC's professional audio division, and the Portastudio it introduced in 1979 effectively created home multitrack recording. For most of the following four decades TASCAM's centre of gravity stayed in recorders, interfaces and installed-sound playback rather than mixing consoles.
Sonicview, launched in 2022, changed that. The Sonicview 16 and Sonicview 24 are 96 kHz consoles built around a dual-touchscreen surface and TASCAM's own FPGA processing, with 32-track direct recording to SD card and expansion slots for Dante or analogue I/O. The recording heritage is visible — capture is a first-class feature rather than an add-on.
How TASCAM ships firmware
Sonicview firmware is applied from an SD card and TASCAM publishes release notes per version. Archiving each release means a console that has sat in a rack for two years can be brought forward in steps rather than in one jump.
