A short history of Soundcraft digital mixers
Soundcraft was founded in 1973 by Phil Dudderidge and Graham Blyth, reportedly out of a need for a road-worthy mixer that would survive touring. Dudderidge had been Led Zeppelin's front-of-house engineer, and the company's early consoles were built around what actually broke on the road. Harman acquired Soundcraft in 1988; Samsung acquired Harman in 2017.
The Vi series launched in 2006 and introduced Vistonics — an interface that places rotary encoders directly around and within the touchscreen, so the control you are touching is the control you are looking at. Developed with sister brand Studer, the Vi line runs from the compact Vi1000 up to the Vi7000 and remains a common front-of-house choice in theatres and touring.
Si Compact, Si Expression, Si Impact and Si Performer brought Soundcraft's processing into fixed-format frames for install and house-of-worship work. The Ui series (2015) went the other way entirely: Ui12, Ui16 and Ui24R are rack mixers with no surface at all, controlled from any browser over Wi-Fi, with no app to install — a design that has aged unusually well.
How Soundcraft ships firmware
Ui-series updates are applied through the browser interface itself, while Vi and Si consoles are updated from USB media. Soundcraft rotates older downloads off its support pages fairly quickly, which makes an independent mirror genuinely useful for anyone maintaining an older desk.
mixerfirmware.com is an independent archive run by BoxCast. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of Soundcraft, and every file here is mirrored from Soundcraft’s own published downloads with its checksum recorded on arrival.
